In October 1990 president Suharto of Indonesia gave Mandela a shirt as a present.
He was so intrigued by the shirt that he searched and two designers, Desre Buirski and Sonwabile Ndamase ( Mandela’s designer and owner of Vukani fashions), among others were employed to design his shirts. This was therefore the origin of the famous MADIBA SHIRT
Lucilla Booyzen director to SA fashion week said ” Mandela changed the dress code of men in SouthAfrica , he gave men the right to wear a shirt without a tie and without being seen as trendy or super fashionable
The Madiba shirts were made of iconic fabric, they were described as batiked hand printed and handcrafted.
he was known as a trendsetter and thereafter the designs imitating the shirts were seen all over even on the high fashion runways
At his old age he still had amazing fashion sense, he was a fabulous man indeed
And now people all around the world wear the MADIBA SHIRT as a trend.
MAY OUR GREAT NELSON MANDELA REST IN PEACE.
